InflaTex

Project details

Programme

Pneumatic structure is a kind of technology that is easy to assemble and disassemble, able to realise the environmental adaptation by inflating and deflating. Textile projects are usually more efficient at producing more complete manufacturing processes, but they have certain limitations in the performance of environmental response and variability.

We explored fibre and yarn types, pattern design for the knitting machine, and deformation effects of pneumatics. Cooperation between the two fields can improve the efficiency, precision and adaptability of both the textile and pneumatic industries. The results of this research may have practical applications in fields as diverse as fashion, textiles and advanced manufacturing.

By combining knitting technology and inflatable products to create dynamically breathing and adaptive skins, we aim to explore the manufacturing process and potential of soft materials for use in the architecture industry.
